York County, PA, Fire Police Officer Hit, Killed

The victim was directing traffic at an intersection in Newberry Township when he was struck and killed.

A fire police officer was struck and killed while directing traffic in Newberry Township on Friday afternoon, according to area police.

The fire police officer was directing traffic near Red Mill Road and Corn Hill Road for a separate crash nearby when they were struck around 2:20 p.m., according to a press release.

The York County Coroner’s Office was dispatched to the area at 2:27 p.m. Before the coroner was called, Newberry Township Police posted on Facebook about a crash at Red Mill Road and Yocumtown Road, just a few hundred feet from the intersection where the officer was struck.

Newberry Township Police requested help from Pennsylvania State Police, that will lead the investigation.

The Newberry Township Police Department included a statement in the police report:

“On behalf of Newberry Township Police and the Department of Public Safety, we express our deepest gratitude to the fallen fire police officer for their service to our community. Furthermore, we offer our sincere condolences to the family and all of their fellow first responders during this tough time.”

No information about the deceased officer has been released as of Friday evening.
