Congressional Flag Ceremony Honors 148 Fallen Firefighters
On Sept. 29, leaders of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus presented 148 American flags flown over the U.S. Capitol to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation (NFFF).
The flags honor the 148 firefighters on the 2022 Roll of Honor include 108 firefighters who died in the line of duty in 2021 and 40 who died in previous years.
These flags will be given to the Fire Hero Families at the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service on Sunday, October 9, in Emmitsburg, MD.
At the Ceremony, members of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus—including Senator Lisa Murkowski (AK), Chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus; Senator Jon Tester (MT), Co-Chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus; and Senator Tom Carper (DE), Co-Chair of the Congressional Fire Services Caucus—presented the flags to the NFFF. US Fire Administrator Dr. Lori Moore-Merrell, NFFF’s Vice-Chair of the Board and Executive Director of the Congressional Fire Services Institute (CFSI) Bill Webb, and NFFF’s Executive Director Chief Ron Siarnicki participated in this important tradition, which took place at DC Fire and EMS Engine 3 in Washington, DC.
The Memorial Service is open to the public and will be live-streamed beginning at 10:00 am ET. To access the livestream and learn how you can help to honor our nation’s fallen heroes, visit National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.
