Falling Tree Kills Canadian Firefighter Battling Wildfire

The 24-year-old firefighter died while engaged in a fire operation in Jasper National Park.

A firefighter has died fighting the out-of-control wildfire complex burning in Jasper National Park.

The 24-year-old firefighter with Alberta Wildlland was hit by a falling tree.

Fellow firefighters provided immediate EMS care. He was flown from the scene by STARS medevac and pronounced dead a short time later,

The Calgary resident was based out of the Rocky Mountain House Fire base, according to Global News. 

Colleagues lined the road while his body was taken away from the hospital.

Jasper Mayor Richard Ireland says the municipality is profoundly saddened by the tragic loss.

“This dedicated person travelled to Jasper to help us, to help protect our town and our home. Our hearts ache for their family, their loved ones and their comrades. Jasperites stand with you, sharing in your grief and honouring the ultimate sacrifice of a courageous firefighter,” he said.
