An up and coming teen, who was living his dream as a firefighter, was remembered for his enthusiasm and dedication Saturday.
"He was always willing to train and be there with the guys, do whatever needed to be done day or night," Beaufort-Leslie Fire Protection District Chief Terry Feth said of Chevy Gall, 16, who was killed in a wreck responding to a water rescue call.
"He was a quick learner, some things took a little longer than others but he was a quick learner," Feth told KSDK as more than 100 gathered to pay their final respects.
Gov. Mike Kehoe ordered flags at givernment buildings in Franklin County, the MI Firefighters Menorial and firehouses throughout the state to fly half-staff in his honor.
"Chevy went through training and embraced the fire service with enthusiasm, seriousness, and dedication. Claudia and I pray for Chevy’s loved ones, extended fire service family, and all who knew this young man who tragically lost his life in service to others," Kehoe said.
Metro West Fire Protection Cat. Matt Coppin said: "For me personally, if something were to ever happen to me, I know the same support would be there for my family. That's what really makes the fire service a family. It's not just the firefighter and paramedics that are working, it's the wives and spouses, the sons and daughters we all are in that same family of the fire service."
