Wildland Firefighter Week of Remembrance is June 30 through July 6. Each year during this week we honor the men and women who lost their lives battling wildland fires.
The start and end dates pay tribute to two of the most devastating wildfires in U.S. fire service history. On June 30, 2013, 19 members of the Granite Mountain Hotshot crew were killed in the Yarnell Hill Fire in Prescott, AZ. On July 6, 1994, a fire on Storm King Mountain in Colorado killed 14 firefighters.
The theme of this year's Week of Remembrance is "Learning From the Mendocino Complex" and it aims to embody a longstanding act of honoring through learning.
Stay safe!
