Today marks the 25th anniversary of the tragic Worcester Cold Storage Fire. When Worcester Fire Department personnel arrived at the building, which was known to have been abandoned for over 10 years, they were told that two homeless people might be living in the building.
Several members of the rescue crew became lost. More crew members became lost looking for their colleagues. When the evacuation order was eventually given, five firefighters and one officer were missing. None survived. Today we remember, Paul Brotherton, Tim Jackson, Jeremiah (Jerry) Lucey, Lt. James (Jay) Lyons, Joseph McGuirk, and Lt. Thomas (Tom) Spencer.
