Springfield firefighters were called to an occupied two-story wood-frame dwelling at 29 Terrence Street around 1 p.m. on Nov. 28.
First alarm companies arrived to find heavy smoke pushing from all four sides of the dwelling and all occupants were out of the home.
Firefighters advanced handlines to both floors of the dwelling via the Alpha and Delta sides of the structure.
Roughly 20 minutes into the attack and with heavy smoke still pushing from structure and fire starting to vent around the chimney flue, command switched to an exterior attack.
Once outside, truck companies opened the roof on the Bravo and Delta sides and then put aerial master streams into operation to knock down the main body of the fire in the attic.
About 90 minutes after the initial alarm, members went back into the building to knock down hot spots and overhaul what was left of the attic and second floor.
