Six Firefighters Hurt in Blast at Saegertown, PA, Chemical Facility

Thirteen people were injured on Sunday after an explosion and fire at an industrial plant in Crawford County.
The incident occurred a little after 10:30 a.m. at the Parker LORD Corporation in Saegertown, according to reports from ErieNewsNow and YourErie.
Saegertown Fire Chief BJ Fleischer said in a press conference that firefighters arrived at the plant just before the explosion occurred.
“They were in there fighting the fire,” Chuck Lawrence with Saegertown Borough Emergency Management told WPXI. “They had been there for a few minutes fighting the fire when there was an explosion.”
Five Saegertown firefighters, one Edinboro firefighter and seven LORD personnel were injured. Most of the injuries appeared to be minor One of the firefighters was taken to a hospital. A spokesperson for LORD told WPXI that four employees were taken to the hospital out of precaution.
Residents within a three-mile radius were initially asked to shelter in place, but that order has since been lifted.
Parker Lord makes adhesives, coatings, and specialty materials used in the automotive, aerospace, industrial, and oil and gas industries.
The fire was under control by late Sunday, officials said.
“We offer our sincere thanks to the local fire department, emergency management and first responders and wish all of those who were injured a speedy recovery,” LORD spokesperson Chris Farage said in a statement. “Once the investigation of the cause of the fire and explosion is complete, we will learn from this incident and continue to place the safety of our team members and our communities as our highest priority.”
