Two people were killed in a fire at the Wander Inn Bar & Grill in East Stroudsburg Wednesday morning.
"The fire had burned through the floor, so we couldn't get up in there for a search upon arrival," said East Stroudsburg Fire Chief Nate Black told WNEP.
Neighbors helped save a woman screaming for help.
"We were all there standing there telling her to jump. She throws her purse and cell phone out the window. But, we weren't worried about that. We are just making sure she got out in time. So she throws herself out, stepes on the air conditioning unit, throws herself, and we catch her as she stumbles a little bit," AJ Robinson, a neighbor explained.
Another neighbor grabbed his ladder, but Robinson said his shaking legs prevented him from going up.
A firefighter, however, climbed up to get the man, who also was trapped.
Crews had a number of challenges.
"The proximity of the buildings was the first thing. We had wind conditions. It wasn't a full-blown wind-driven fire, but it didn't help us," Black said.
Several firefighters were injured while operating at the incident.
Firefighters found the bodies of Jennifer Lugo, 34, and Ashton Patterson, 42, inside the building.
