CHESTERFIELD, N.H. --

Firefighters from several communities were battling a massive brush fire in Chesterfield on Tuesday morning. Fire crews are attacking the fire from Hinsdale.

Flames were spreading on Wantastiquet Mountain.

Firefighters said the flames had burned nearly the whole side of the western slope of the mountain. It's estimated 20-30 acres have been burnt. They were finally able to begin containing the fire before 11 p.m.

Witnesses said that the smoke rising from the fire was visible for several miles.

At one point, fire officials obtained a private plane that flew over the area to see how far the fire had spread. However, there was no word on how many acres had been scorched.

There were no reports of injuries or homes or buildings in danger.
