A woman and three children were found dead early Sunday in a northwest Oklahoma City apartment fire, firefighters reported.
Fire broke out at the Quail Ridge Apartments, 13300 Plaza Terrace, about 2:50 a.m., Oklahoma City fire Battalion Chief Benny Fulkerson reported.
A man who jumped off of a balcony and survived told firefighters his girlfriend and three children, a girl and two boys, had not been able to escape. Firefighters found the woman and two children dead after flames were extinguished.
About 8 a.m., firefighters found the body of a third child, Fulkerson reported.
More than 50 firefighters responded to the blaze just east of N May Avenue and south of W Memorial Road where about 20 apartments sustained fire, smoke and water damage. Investigators were not sure if a smoke alarm had been in the apartment where the fire started. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
The fire caused about $494,000 damage to the structure and contents.
In 2018, 22 people died in Oklahoma City fires, including 12 people who died in January. The deaths Sunday are the first fire fatalities reported in Oklahoma City this year.
