Major Fire Erupts at NJ Recycling Plant

Dec. 16, 2019
Smoke was visible for miles as a major fire erupted at a recycling plant Monday in Woodbridge, with some reports saying a sixth alarm was struck.

A major fire was burning Monday afternoon at the Bayshore Recycling Center in Woodbridge, causing thick black smoke to be visible for miles.

Township spokesman John Hagerty said the blaze broke out around 12:20 p.m. and there were no reported injuries.

Woodbridge firefighters were first at the scene before being joined by Perth Amboy, South Amboy and Sayreville crews, the spokesman said.

The fire started in a cardboard recycling area of the processing facility, he said.

A large column of smoke could be seen from about five to 10 miles away, especially on and approaching the Driscoll Bridge.
