Aerial Used to Rescue Occupants from D.C. High-Rise Fire

D.C. Fire and EMS firefighters rescued two occupants from the balcony of a high-rise using an aerial ladder during an afternoon fire.

Firefighters helped people escape a high-rise apartment fire in Washington, D.C. Sunday afternoon, including two people who were rescued with an aerial ladder.

Heavy black some was coming from the third floor of the 10-story apartment on M Street Southwest, according to NBCWashington.com.

D.C. Fire and EMS crews rescued several people from their balconies and worked to help others shelter in place. 

EMS crews evaluated several residents and one person was taken to the hospital non-life threatening injuries.

Over 100 firefighters responded to the scene with 40 emergency vehicles. 

Two cats perished in the fire.
