Three children and a dog made it safely to the ground with the help of Kingston firefighters after flames broke out in their second-story apartment.

New York firefighters rescued three children and a dog from the roof of a burning apartment building Thursday.

The fire broke out at around 12:40 p.m. outside the Kingston building and spread inside the walls and up to a second-story apartment, the Daily Freeman reports. Children inside the unit who were alone at the time—two boys ages 14 and 6, and a girl, 13—had called 9-1-1, and dispatchers stayed on the phone until crews arrived.

Once at the scene, firefighters rescued the children, who had fled to the roof. They safely made it to the ground by climbing down a ladder.

A firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation during the blaze, according to the Freeman. No other injuries were reported, and crews were able to contain the blaze to the apartment.
