MI Firefighter Injured Battling Residential Blaze

Holland firefighters worked for about 20 minutes to extinguish a house blaze early Thursday after crews determined that all the occupants had escaped the burning structure.

HOLLAND, MI—A firefigher was injured early Thursday morning while crews worked to extinguish a blaze at a house on 21st Street in Holland.

Holland police and fire crews were dispatched in the early hours of Sept. 24 to 100 E. 21st St. on a report of a fire at the residence with a trapped occupant possibly inside. Upon arrival, fire officials said smoke and fire were present in the second floor.

After firefighters executed search and rescue operations, they determined no one was trapped inside the home and all occupants had been able to safely evacuate.

Firefighters took about 20 minutes to knock down the fire. Fire department efforts continued throughout the night, focused on locating hidden fire in attic void spaces, according to a news release from the Holland Department of Public Safety.

A firefighter injured on the scene during initial operations was transported to the hospital for evaluation and was later released, according to HDPS.

Damage estimates were not available Thursday.

No other injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the HDPS fire marshal.
