New Orleans crews battled a one-alarm fire that broke out Monday at the site of the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel.
The blaze started when demolition contractors at the site were cutting steel girders and sparks ignited roofing material on one of the upper floors, according to the fire department. The Hard Rock Hotel partially collapsed in 2019, killing two people.
Firefighters arrived at the scene shortly after 8:45 a.m. Members of the department's Fire Watch and the Louisiana-Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue team were able to assess the incident to incoming crews in order to mitigate the situation and minimize the risks to contractors.
Seven units with 22 firefighters responded to the blaze. Firefighters were able to extend the boom from an aerial to reach the flames.
No injuries were have been reported.
