The mother of Plainville firefighter and EMT Brett Bertram said Tuesday that her son is now conscious and talking, WBZ-TV reports. He had been in a coma while battling COVID, and he's been moved out of the intensive care unit.

“It means he doesn’t need that level of care and is on the road to recovery,” Bertram’s mother stated.

GoFundMe page has been set up by Bertram's family to help cover the costs of his medical bills. So far, it has earned more than $20,000.
