A Blue Ash firefighter climbed through a nursing home window in order to reach and carry out a resident in his 70s who was trapped inside the burning room.

An Ohio firefighter climbed through a nursing home window to save a resident trapped inside last week.

Blue Ash firefighters responded a call to Cooper's Trace Skilled Nursing about a fire alarm, WCPO-TV reports. When crews arrived, they found a fire had broken out and was contained to a single room with a man in his 70s inside.

“I was actually the first one up to the fire room window,” firefighter Scott Reed told WCPO. “The police department took the window out already. We made entry into the fire room bedroom.”

Once inside, Reed was able to pull the resident to safety. The man was taken to the hospital, but no details were released about his condition.

Crews were able to extinguish the fire before it spread to the rest of the facility. Firefighters from Sycamore, Evendale and Montgomery also responded to the fire

“Today was really a success of the whole shift and department as well as mutual aid companies,” Reed said.
