Firefighters in Fairbanks assisted one person to safety from a fire in a boarded-up vacant commercial building.

Firefighters in Fairbanks assisted a transient to safety during a vacant commercial building fire on the 500 block of Gaffney Road on Thursday.

Prior to arrival at the boarded-up Coin King laundromat, two occupants self-escaped from the building.

Crew members from Medic 1 assisted one person in exiting the structure through a window, according to a Facebook post by the Fairbanks Firefighters Union.

Companies initiated an offensive attack on the fire before transitioning to a defensive operation due to difficulties locating the fire.

Once crews were able, they resumed offensive operations and completed searches to ensure no more transients were in the structure.
