New Orleans firefighters battled a three-alarm apartment fire Monday evening at the Carmel Brooks Apartments.
When firefighters arrived, they were directed to a first-floor apartment in building 22, where the fire is believed to have begun.
Firefighters set up suppression operations and searched the structure to ensure no occupants remained in the building, according to a press release by the New Orleans Fire Department.
A second alarm was called shortly after arrival as flames broke through the roof, command ordered all firefighters out of the structure and transitioned to defensive operations.
Fire officials said all twelve units of this apartment building were occupied. The American Red Cross has been called to the scene to assist the residents displaced by this incident.
