Firefighting efforts continued Sunday morning as firefighters worked to extinguish a blaze at a vacant former resort in St. Charles, which began Saturday afternoon.
The St. Charles Fire Department responded around 4:40 p.m. to a report of a fire at the former Pheasant Run Resort, 4051 Main St., according to a social media post from the city of St. Charles, a western suburb in Kane County.
The first fire engine arrived at 4:45 p.m. and found “serious fire conditions” coming from several areas within a structure on the property. What was originally reported to be a two-alarm fire increased in severity to a three-alarm box response as a result of how widespread the fire was and the vast size of the complex, according to the post.
More than 20 area fire departments joined in the response, along with the St. Charles police, Emergency Management Agency, public works, electric and water departments. The West Chicago Water Department and the Kane County Office of Emergency Management joined forces during the incident.
No one had been reported injured, officials said. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the St. Charles fire and police departments.
