Syracuse, N.Y. — Firefighters battled two house fires in Syracuse just 30 minutes apart early Monday morning.
Just before 6 a.m., firefighters responded to the 1200 block of Park Street for reports of a house fire, Syracuse Fire Captain Mattew Craner said.
When crews arrived they saw a significant amount of smoke and found an active fire in between the walls, Craner said. The fire was quickly controlled and knocked out.
There were around 15 people staying inside the home but no one was injured, Craner said. All of the residents will be allowed to return to the house.
Just 30 minutes later, another house fire was reported on the 100 block of Mather Street. When firefighters arrived they were met with heavy smoke and flames on the second floor, Craner said.
Most of the fire was knocked out quickly but firefighters continued to battle hotspots in the roof and second floor, Craner said.
The home on Mather Street is believed to be vacant, Craner said. No one was injured or displaced by the fire, he said.
