A team of rescue officials used ladders and ropes to hoist a man from the base of the Manasquan Inlet rocks Friday afternoon.

The incident started shortly before 2 p.m. when the man tumbled down the jetty on the Manasquan side and came to rest with his upper body partially in the chilly water. Two Manasquan police officers arrived first and found the man talking, but unable to move.

As they called in more rescuers, good Samaritans helped them send ropes down to the man so he would not further enter the water between Manasquan and Point Pleasant Beach.

Firefighters and EMS officials from several area towns deployed a long firefighting ladder down the rocks and hoisted the man back to the beach, where he was loaded into a waiting ambulance, then taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for treatment.
