Session 2 Aerial Apparatus Practical Activities
SPO 2-1 The student will demonstrate a basic understanding of setting up and operating elevated streams through a series of practical activities addressing the material in Session 1.
EO 2-1 Demonstrate the various techniques for rescuing a conscious victim using aerial units.
EO 2-2 Demonstrate the techniques of using aerial units to ventilate a structure.
EO 2-3 Demonstrate the techniques of using aerial units to support fire streams.
EO 2-4 Demonstrate the tactical use of an elevated stream.
I. Rescue Using Aerial Apparatus (2-1)
A. Spot the turntable for rescue from the window of a structure
B. Raise the aerial unit to effect the rescue of an unconscious victim from a window
C. Place the ladder or platform
D. Discuss an imperfectly spotted turntable
E. Remove a simulated trapped people
F. Remove a simulated victim using a litter
G. Utilize the aerial ladder or platform as a lifeline anchor
II. Demonstrate Ventilation Using Aerial Apparatus (2-2)
NOTE: If facilities are not available to practice the ventilation activities, they can be simulated.
A. Remove a window for ventilation using hand tools from an aerial device
B. Vent a roof opening with a stream
C. Vent by removing a window with an aerial ladder
III. Demonstrate Hose Operations Using Aerial Apparatus (2-3)
A. Lift personnel and equipment using an aerial device
B. Use an aerial device as a portable standpipe
IV. Demonstrate Elevated Streams (2-4)
A. Set Up an Aerial Pipe
B. Set up an aerial stream for fire attack
C. Set up an aerial stream for exposure coverage
D. Set up an aerial device for elevated handlines
