Houston firefighters battled the heat as well as the flames at a motel fire Tuesday.
Crews initially started an interior attack, but later retreated as conditions worsened, KHOU reported.
More than 100 firefighters were working to put the fire out, mainly due to the heat, Houston Fire Capt. Sedrick Robinett told reporters.
Additional alarms were requested due to the extreme heat.
METRO sent some of its buses so firefighters could escape the heat and rehydrate in the air conditioning.
The cause remains under investigation.
