Two Unconscious Victims Rescued from NY House Fire

Syracuse, N.Y. — A man and a woman are in critical condition after being rescued from a North Side house fire Friday morning, firefighters said.

Firefighters arrived at 2:39 a.m. at the two-family home at 214 Burdick Ave. where they found black smoke coming from the second-story windows.

Firefighters entered the home to search for people. The second story was full of thick blinding smoke and heat, firefighters said.

An unconscious man was found on the second floor, firefighters said. The man was given medical care at the scene and taken to a hospital, firefighters said.

The search team went back and found an unconscious woman at the back of the house on the second floor, firefighters said. The woman was brought out a window and down a ladder, firefighters said.

It took 40 minutes to put out the fire, firefighters said.

Fire investigators are on scene working to determine what caused the fire. The second story has badly damage from fire, smoke and water, firefighters said. The first floor has smoke damage.
