Mom Drops Baby to Philadelphia Officer Before Jumping to Escape Fire

Dec. 8, 2023
Seven including a firefighter and two police officers were transported for minor injuries.

A Philadelphia police officer caught a baby dropped by her mother from the second floor window of a burning row house Thursday.

The woman then jumped to escape the flames, 6abc reported.

A firefighter who called a 'Mayday' after becoming trapped briefly was rescued.

"I saw a police officer catch the baby. The baby was crying. She was scared. Her mom was still on the second floor. But after she jumped from the second floor, they went to the hospital," said Risa Shirane, who lives across the street.

Officers also helped another adult and child get out of the house.

The seven transported included two officers, a firefighter and four residents. All suffered minor injuries.

The cause remains under investigation.
