Six fire departments were needed to contain a fire that spread through a two-story taxpayer in West Babylon.

Five firefighters were injured in a fire that spread from West Babylon deli throughout the building, including apartments, Thursday night.

West Babylon firefighters found smoke coming from Frank's Deli in a two-story taxpayer building on Little East Neck Road around 5:30 p.m. Officials believe the fire started in the rear of the business.

Officials told News12.com that the fire spread into two adjacent spaces that were vacant, and spread vertically into two apartments on the second story.

At least a half-dozen fire companies, plus an ambulance squad responded to help control the fire, which collapsed the roof of the building.

A fire departments spokesperson said the five firefighters were taken to the hospital with smoke inhalation

Two children and six adults were left homeless by the fire.
