Firefighters Delayed Getting Water on Bay Shore, NY, Diner Blaze

July 2, 2024
The hydrant across the street was out of service forcing Suffolk County crews to hit one three blocks away.

Although heavy fire and smoke were showing from a Bay Shore diner early Tuesday, firefighters were delayed getting water on the fire.

That's because the hydrant directly across the street was out of service for repairs, abc7 reported.

Firefighters had to hook up to a hydrant three blocks away to get the first water on the fire.

A firefighter who suffered a minor hand injury was taken to South Shore University Hospital.

It appears the fire started in the kitchen, fire officials reported.
