A warehouse fire in St. Louis burning in its second day Tuesday has closed the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge due to heavy smoke and low visibility, authorities said.

The vacant six-story building is a windowless cold storage warehouse in the 1800 block of North Broadway in the Near North Riverfront neighborhood. It began burning Monday. The fire at the building is the second this year.

No injuries have been reported.

Two-alarm fire in vacant warehouse

St. Louis firefighters work at the scene of a two-alarm vacant warehouse fire on N. Broadway and Brooklyn Street on Monday, Oct. 14, 2024. This is the second fire at the six-story cold storage warehouse this year.

Fire crews at around 6 a.m. Tuesday said flames were shooting out the side of the building. Video from a drone showed the roof was intact with smoke coming out the penthouse.

The Missouri Department of Transportation, at the request of the St. Louis Fire Department, closed the Stan Musial Bridge across the Mississippi River between Illinois and Missouri for the next two days.

MoDOT suggests drivers uses the McKinley or the MLK bridges instead.
