MILFORD, MI – Several homes were damaged in an explosion at a General Motors facility in Michigan.

Michigan State Police in Brighton were among those who responded to the scene at the Milford Proving Grounds on General Motors Road in Milford at 9 a.m. on Monday.

The explosion caused a fire, and several departments and HazMat teams responded to the scene.

The explosion caused damaged to nearby homes with windows being blown out, doors blown in, items knocked off shelfs/walls, police said. No injuries were reported.

The Milford Proving Ground is GM’s lead facility for global proving grounds, responsible for product development and durability testing for GM’s North American and global products.

The Detroit-based automaker released the following statement:

“We are aware of an incident at the Milford Proving Ground involving one of the oil wells located on GM property. Thankfully, no one was injured, and no facilities were damaged. GM fire crews are on the scene and have the incident under control. Local fire departments are standing by if needed. We will continue to monitor the situation.”

There are no hazardous material concerns for the public, police said.
