A wildfire that ignited in Mexico burned its way north into the San Diego area Saturday afternoon, Cal Fire officials said.
The blaze started around 12:30 p.m. and charred through 80 acres in Mexico before spreading across the border onto the south slope of Otay Mountain, Cal Fire Capt. Mike Cornette said.
"We're in contact with the Mexican Consulate and are coordinating as necessary," he said.
Due to the ruralness of the location, there are no structures nearby. No injuries have been reported.
Crews had the fire about 5 percent contained, according to Cal Fire.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
