At 2:31 am, Sunday, February 22, 2004 the Venus, Texas Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to a possible structure fire at U.S. Hwy. 67 and FM 2738.

When the volunteers rolled their engine out of the firehouse, the report was a fully involved structure fire on CR 505, approximately 3/4 mile northeast of that intersection.

As the Venus engine turned onto Hwy. 67, they saw the large fire in the distance. They then called for mutual aid from the Lillian Volunteer Fire Department for a second engine and semi-tanker.

Upon arrival on scene at 2:45 am, they found an old abandoned frame farmhouse, totally involved. The fire is under investigation for possible arson.
