The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints,Samoa lost one of their temples to fire on Wednesday evening 9 July 2003.
The Apia,Samoa Temple was being renovated and enlarged to add an expanded baptismal font and was scheduled for dedication on October.The fire is believed to be construction related,church officalssaid.
The temple is located on a 1.7 acre site in Pesega,Samoa.The temple was completed in 1983 and dedicated by Church President Gordon B.Hinckley.
The temple had a cedar shake-shingle roof and modern design masonry exterior finish over concrete block.The temple encompasses an area of 14,560 square feet.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is a worldwide church which consists of over 11 million members.LDS members attend local meeting houses and attend temples.The church currently has 114 temples in operation. Church officals have not decided if they will rebuild the Samoan Temple.
