On February 10, 2005, at 5:30 PM, the Huntertown, Indiana Fire Department was dispatched to assist Allen County Animal Control with two dogs that fell through ice off of Cedar Canyons Rd.

On arrival, Asst. Chief Eng. Rob Tucker found two Labrador Retrievers, in the water, struggling for their lives. The dogs were about 30 feet from shore when the ice was no longer able to support them. It is unclear how long the dogs struggled before the property owner was alerted that there was a problem. The dogs in the pond were not owned by the property owner. In fact, the resident's pet dog was barking frantically in the house indicating that something was wrong out in the pond, which is when she spotted the troubled K-9
