On Saturday, April 24 at 9:01 a.m., the Bullhead City Fire Department was dispatched to a multiple vehicle collision on Highway 95 at Rising Star Road under the command of Battalion Chief Craig Stephenson. This was a high impact collision with one person trapped.
Captain Dan Kern took control of the vehicle extrication. The driver’s door was heavily damaged as well as the driver’s floor board. Using the “Jaws of Life,” the door was removed. Another power tool was used to lift the dashboard far above the floor board, thus freeing the trapped female patient. It appeared the driver was not wearing a seat belt. She was transported from the scene by Care Flight Air Rescue and flown to Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas in stable condition.
Also in the vehicle, in the front seat, was a nine-year-old boy. He was transported to Western Arizona Regional Medical with minor injuries. He was treated and released. His injuries were attributed to the use of a seat belt.
Two females were in the other vehicle, one of whom was transported to Valley View Medical Center with minor injuries.
The Bullhead City Police Department and the Arizona Highway Patrol closed Highway 95 for a short time for the safety of the emergency crew while the patient was extricated.
