A late night building fire was quickly spread by high winds in Fort Worth on Tuesday night. About 10:15 p.m. crews were dispatched to the 8000 block of Camp Bowie West. The assignment consisted of Engines 23, 30, 16 and 32 Quints 16 and 23 and Battalions 5 and 2. Units arrived to find heavy smoke from the end unit, a dentist’s office, of a one-story strip mall. As units opened up the building, they found that the 25 mph gusts help the fire spread throughout the attic space.
The fire was contained in about 30 minutes and extensive overhaul was needed around the original fire unit. The fire caused extensive damage to the dentist's office and moderate smoke damage to the other units.
According to Fort Worth Fire Department PIO Tim Hardeman, the fire caused about $300,000. The cause is under investigation.
