The Briar Oaks Volunteer Fire Department responded to a structure fire call at 10:58 am on Saturday, January 15, 2005.
The first-in engine reported a 20 unit metal storage facility with heavy smoke showing from entire building.
Mutual aid was dispatched from five other Johnson County Texas fire departments.
All 20 units were locked, making entry into all units a slow process. The fire spread to 18 of the 20 units due to no fire walls in the attic area of the building.
A supply line from a fire hydrant in a neighboring housing track was laid to the command engine across yards and through an easement between properties.
Emergency Support Services provided liquids, refreshments, and medical check-ups to the 27 firefighters. The following Johnson County Fire Departments provided engines and manpower: Briar Oaks Volunteer Fire Department, Alvarado Fire Department, Burleson Fire Department, Joshua VFD, Lillian Volunteer Fire Department, and Keene Volunteer Fire Department.
