Just before 1 a.m. Sunday, a passing motorist called the 9-1-1 communications center reporting smoke coming from the Yellow Cab Company located at 4257 Golf Acres Drive in West Charlotte.
Members of the Charlotte Fire Department including three battalion chiefs, eight engine companies, two ladder companies and one heavy rescue company were called.
Firefighters declared a working fire. The incident commander requested additional resources to assist with battling this blaze resulting in a second-alarm assignment.
They used water from nearby fire hydrants to supply multiple hose lines deployed to fight the fire. It took 48 firefighters more than an hour to bring this fire under control but not before the fire caused an estimated $750,000 in damage.
The Yellow Cab Company will remain open for business from a remote location and continue to provide taxi services.
Charlotte fire investigators have determined this fire was intentionally set and are asking anyone with information pertaining to this fire to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600. Information that leads to an arrest and/or conviction may be eligible for a reward.
