Four Injured, One Dead in Single Vehicle Crash in Ohio

Upon arrival, crews found one vehicle on its top in the middle of Harmony Road, located just outside of Athens, Ohio. The vehicle had been traveling at excessive speeds, according the Ohio Highway Patrol, when the vehicle crashed into two trees and flipped into the roadway. Two victims involved in the crash were able to free themselves while three remained trapped in the vehicle.

The two year old son of the driver was extricated by firefighters from his car seat as he hung upside down in the mangled vehicle. The driver, who was partially ejected, was freed by firefighters as well and then flown to OSU Medical Center in Columbus, Ohio by Medflight. The remaining victim entrapped in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS crews. All of the victims were transported by Southeast Ohio E.M.S. and then flown to Columbus Hospitals late Wednesday afternoon.

There is no information available on patient conditions at this time and the cause of the accident is still under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
