Colo. Crews Rescue Construction Worker

May 12, 2012

Firefighters from the Greeley Fire Department were called to Butler Hancock Gym on the University of Northern Colorado Campus on a report of a construction worker who had fallen on May 9.

The first arriving engine reported that the fall victim was still on the roof of the building and requested a ladder company respond into order to remove the patient from the precarious position.

Ladder 1 responded and set up their aerial ladder on the north side of the gym. Crews placed the patient in a rescue litter and he was then carried down the ladder to an awaiting ambulance.

Without the use of the aerial ladder, the patient would have to have been carried up a series of ladders and scaffolding which would have been extremely difficult and more importantly, time consuming.

Apparently, the worker had slipped and fallen from some construction scaffolding. The patient sustained fall-related injuries including contusions and potential orthopedic and internal injuries.

The patient was transported to North Colorado Medical Center by ambulance.
