Three fire departments responded to a one-alarm house fire in Florence on Jan. 24.
Units were dispatched to the 7100 block of Manderlay Drive for a report of a house fire at 6:20 a.m. when 911 callers advised that there was a large fire in the rear of the house. Subsequent information indicated that all occupants were out of the structure.
Arriving companies were met with heavy fire and smoke coming from the rear of the house and attic area. An initial offensive attack was made, but worsening conditions forced crews to withdraw fight the fire defensively.
The fire was extinguished within 20 minutes of arrival, but crews remained on scene for two hours to extinguish hot spots.
Two people were home and escaped unharmed.
The fire is believed to have started on the exterior of the home near the rear deck and extended into the attic. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Firefighters from Elsmere and Erlanger Fire Departments assisted Florence.
Units on Scene: E-101, E-102, E-103, E-401, E-51, L-110, C-130, S-114.
