During the early morning hours, the Toms River Fire Department Station 29 was dispatched to Bay Point Drive for a reported structural fire during the early morning hours.
The first arriving command unit, Assistant Chief 2910, reported a 2 1/2-story wood-frame dwelling fully involved. He immediatly called for additional units, summoning Station 25 for one engine, Station 30 for an engine, ladder, and tanker, and Station 26 for an engine and the F.A.S.T/Rescue.
First arriving Engine 2911 immediatley set up the deck gun and a 2 1/2-inch handline to protect the Bravo exposure. Ladder Co. 2905 arrived shortly after and immediatley went into aerial operations to attack the fire and provide exposure protection on the Delta side.
The structure then suffered a full roof system failure as well as a collapse of th Alpha extrerior wall.
Engine 2501 and Ladder 3065 took up active fire attack utilizing two additional 1 3/4-inch handlines and a 2 1/2-inch Blitzfire ground monitor line.
The fire was knocked down and placed under control a short time later. There were no civilian or firefighter injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the local authorities.
The neighborhood in which the incident occured was severely damaged due to Hurricane Sandy and many of the homes remain in various states of disrepair and collapse as well as vacant. The home in which the fire occured was vacant at the time due to damages sustained during the hurricane.
