Springfield firefighters used a defensive attack on a blaze that damaged a vacant dwelling on May 17.

Fire companies were toned out early in the morning for a structure fire at 187 Pine St. in the Six Corners section of the city.

Arriving on scene, the District 2 Chief officer advised he had a vacant 2 1/2-story wood-frame dwelling with heavy fire showing from the C/D corner of the building.

Companies utilized several hand lines and Ladder 3's aerial master stream to bring the fire under control within an hour.

Damage is estimated at $80,000.

Units on scene: Engines 3, 8 and 1, Ladders 3 and 8, Rescue Squad and District 2 Chief
