Halfway Volunteer Fire Company Chief 26 arrived on scene to find heavy fire on side Alpha.

At 10:39 p.m. on Dec. 2, the Washington County Emergency Communications Center received numerous calls of a house fire on the 17000 block of York Road.

Halfway Volunteer Fire Company Chief 26 arrived on scene to find heavy fire on side Alpha. Engine 262 (Halfway) arrived on scene, stretched a hoseline to side Alpha and started a defensive operation until conditions allowed the crew to make an interior fight.

Approximately 50 firefighters were on scene for three hours controlling the blaze, helping the homeowner remove items from the basement, and performing overhaul operations.  

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for a check up.  

Maryland State Fire Marshals Office is investigating the fire, which is now believed to be arson.
