Off-Duty Tree Trimming Kills Pa. Chief

MILESBURG, Pa. -- Emergency responders in Centre County are confirming reports that the man killed in a tree trimming accident this morning is the chief of the Howard Fire Company. Authorities said 42-year-old Bob Mann was killed shortly before 10:30 a.m. when a tree he was cutting down near Milesburg toppled into another tree, then bounced back and pinned Mann underneath. A volunteer with the Howard Fire Company told WJAC-TV that a grief counselor has been called in to meet with volunteers Monday afternoon.

Emergency responders in Centre County are confirming reports that the man killed in a tree trimming accident this morning is the chief of the Howard Fire Company.

Authorities said 42-year-old Bob Mann was killed shortly before 10:30 a.m. when a tree he was cutting down near Milesburg toppled into another tree, then bounced back and pinned Mann underneath.

A volunteer with the Howard Fire Company told WJAC-TV that a grief counselor has been called in to meet with volunteers Monday afternoon.

First responders with Citizens Fire Company of Milesburg and Howard Fire Company remained on scene for more than three hours with family members.

State Police at Rockview aren’t releasing additional details until the autopsy is complete, which is reportedly underway this evening at Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
