PORT ST. JOHN, Fla.
--
A freight train hit a semi truck carrying 4,000 gallons of bleach in Port St. John Tuesday night. Brevard County Fire Rescue officials say the accident happened on the railroad tracks at Kings Highway.
Officials said about 35 gallons of diesel leaked from the semi truck when the train struck the vehicle, but none of the bleach leaked from the tractor trailer.
Authorities said they were concerned because a natural gas pipeline runs adjacent to the railroad tracks. Gas company officials were called in to the scene to make sure everything was secure.
"It's very scary, very scary, I'm very scared," neighbor Terry Walter said. "So we came down to see if everything was okay."
No one was seriously injured in the crash and nearby homes were not evacuated.
Investigators say the truck driver, Mark Siani, was stopped on the tracks when the train hit the cab of the truck. Hes facing charges for careless driving.
