Firefighters in Great Barrington rescued a man who was pinned underneath a dump truck Wednesday, officials said.
First responders were dispatched to Burning Tree Road in Great Barrington around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday after receiving a report that a vehicle had overturned and a person was stuck underneath the vehicle, the Great Barrington Fire Department announced.
Fire Chief Charles Burger arrived and reported a large dump truck on its side with a man pinned underneath the cab, a press release said.
The truck was lifted by the town’s rescue engine and the patient was freed within 10 minutes of the first responders’ arrival. The man, who was not identified but was described as in his 50s, was stabilized before being brought to Bard College at Simon’s Rock where a landing zone was set up for a helicopter. He was then flown to Bay State Hospital in serious but stable condition, officials said.
“This incident is a great example of the great teamwork between Police, Fire, EMS, and mutual aid. Collectively we were able to mitigate what otherwise would have been a tragedy,” said Chief Burger. “We wish the patient a speedy and full recovery.”
The incident is under investigation by the Great Barrington Police Department and Massachusetts State Police.
