Spokane Valley firefighters rescued a 9-year-old boy Wednesday after he fell about 40 feet down a cliff in the Dishman Hills Conservation Area.

The boy was hiking with his mother when he fell near the Pond Loop Trail, according to the Spokane Valley Fire Department.

Firefighters then hiked into the area carrying medical equipment for the child while another crew prepared to hoist him up the cliff on a rescue stretcher attached to an off-road vehicle, according to a news release.
