A construction worker had to be rescued Tuesday after falling into a hole at a home that is being demolished, according to the Concord Fire Department.

The construction worker had fallen into the hole at 63 Bruce Road around 11:20 a.m. on Tuesday, Concord Fire Chief Thomas Judge said in a statement. The man was injured and trapped in a roughly 6-foot deep hole inside the structure.

Firefighters used “confined space rescue equipment” to remove the worker from the hole.

“He was trapped in a relatively small opening and we had some challenges getting him out of there with an injury,” Judge said. “I’d like to thank all of our companies who worked together to bring this rescue to a successful conclusion.”

After about an hour, the man was freed.

A spokesman for the department said the worker was “not too seriously” hurt and was conscious and alert before the rescue. He was taken to Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston.
